Bangkok Skytrain

The Bangkok skytrain has transformed Bangkok transportation. Since it's opening on December 5, 1999, millions of passengers have enjoyed comfortable travel above the noisy congested streets of Bangkok.

Single journey fares on the Bangkok skytrain range between 15 and 40 baht, depending on the distance traveled. Each station is equipped with self service ticket machines, but the machines only accept 5 and 10 baht coins. If you need coins for the machine, there are attendants available to change your banknotes.

Having correct change to buy single journey tickets can be very inconvenient, especially if there are several persons in your party. Multiple journey tickets are available for purchase from the ticket booth at each station. A single day pass costs 120 baht and is valid for unlimited fares on the day of purchase. If you plan to stay in Bangkok for several days, it may be worthwhile to purchase a 30 day pass.

Bangkok Skytrain Routes

The current Bangkok skytrain routes are rather limited. There are currently only two skytrain lines. The Sukhumvit line and the Silom line. These two lines cover much of the business and shopping districts in the center of Bangkok. Trains run from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. The number of trains is increased during times of peak usage. Construction is nearly finished on extensions to both lines. This will greatly increase the service area of the Bangkok skytrain. View a Bangkok skytrain map.

Bangkok Skytrain Stations

The skytrain stations have two different layouts. Most stations are side platform stations. The train lines run through the center of station and the platforms are on each side of the train lines. The other type of station has a center platform and the train lines run on each side of the central platform. Siam station is the interchange station where the Sukhumvit line and the Silom line meet. The skytrain also interchanges with the Bangkok subway at the Mo Chit, Asoke and Saladaeng stations.
