Phuket Travel Information
Phuket is Thailand's only island province and it covers the smallest land area. Tourism is the largest industry on the island, but rubber plantations add to Phuket's economy as well.

The western side of the island has many beautiful beaches. Most are popular tourist spots with a wide selection of hotels, resorts and spas which cater to the many tourists who visit Phuket each year. |
Phuket Transportation
Phuket transportation is one of the drawbacks when visiting this wonderful island. The three wheeled tuk tuks which are well known with tourists in other parts of Thailand have been replaced with small red open sided vans in Phuket. They are much roomier than their predecessors, but they are also very expensive to hire. The one way fares usually begin at 250 baht and the drivers of these red trucks will not bargain. They are definitely the most convenient form of transportation on the island.

If you plan to stay in Phuket for more than a few days, renting a car may save you some money. Driving in Thailand is generally very safe. The roads are well maintained and many signs are in both Thai and English. If you do choose to rent a car, make sure you find a good map of Phuket.
A second option for tourists who want to get around Phuket on their own vehicle is to rent a motorbike. They are extremely inexpensive to rent and to operate. Please be careful if you choose to rent a motorbike while in Phuket. The island is very mountainous and the winding roads have many blind curves. Make sure you wear a helmet and stay alert. Motorbike accidents are high throughout Thailand and Phuket is no exception. |
